Show the Federal Government you support action for nature

“In a rapidly changing climate, with unsustainable development and use of resources, the general outlook for our environment is poor and deteriorating”

Those are the opening words of the 2021 State of the Environment Report.

We need to show the government that there is widespread support for action to protect Australia's unique wildlife and their habitat.

Will you write to Minister Plibersek to thank her for her honesty in acknowledging the true environmental crisis we are facing, and encourage her to act to enact strong laws for nature?

Dear Minister,

Firstly, I would like to thank you for your honest acknowledgement of the poor and declining state of our environment at your National Press Club launch of the 2021 State of the Environment report.

Like you said in your speech, too much habitat has been cleared and too many ecosystems and species are under threat. We need this report to be a turning point for our national answer to environmental protection.

I am writing to urge you to make this moment a line in the sand.

We need legislation that will stymie species extinction and halt any further habitat destruction. New standards should ensure the habitats of threatened species should be entirely ring fenced to protect what remains from any further decline.

Your government has promised strong National Environment Standards and an independent Environmental Protection Agency. These will be crucial in turning things around for nature.

I am looking forward to your swift action in setting clear objectives for the standards  that offer the utmost protection for the environment, and work to repair the declines we have already seen in wildlife and habitats.
