Recycling your mobile phone with Humane Society International is easy, and will not only prevent landfill but will also help save the mountain gorilla!
Simply fill out this form and we will send you a free, postage paid satchel to put your old phones in. Each satchel can take up to four phones.
Once the satchel is received by Aussie Recycling Program (ARP), Humane Society International will receive $3-$5 for every phone recycled.
Funds we raise from recycling your mobile will be used to support patrols in Virunga National Park, the home of the critically endangered mountain gorilla. Many gorillas and rangers have been killed by poachers in recent years. HSI is committed to helping the surviving gorillas, whose population is declining.
Coltan is a valuable mineral used in the manufacture of mobile phones. It is mined from the mountain gorilla's forest home, destroying their natural habitat and threatening these endangered animals. So not only will your recycled mobile phone contribute funds to help save the mountain gorilla, but it will also help to take the pressure off increased mining.
Aussie Recycling Program (ARP) recycles thousands of mobile phones every year generating income for over 40 Australian charities. Refurbished phones are exported to developing countries, where low cost handsets are needed. The remainder are stripped of their components and recycled or reused in a variety of ways. No materials go to landfill.
