Queensland’s fruit industry has a dirty secret. Each year permits to shoot thousands of environmentally vital, highly social and intelligent flying-foxes are handed out to orchardists despite a humane solution being affordable and available.
The state’s Animal Welfare Advisory Committee found that “shooting of flying-foxes to control predation in the fruit crop industry is inhumane” more than a decade ago. Enough is enough.
Please help us stop flying-foxes being shot in Queensland by writing to Environment Minister Meaghan Scanlon and Shadow Environment Minister Sam O'Connor to ask that they commit to ending flying-fox shooting in Queensland at the upcoming election.
